Report: Human Factors In Physiotherapy: Are we just Methodological Therapists or are we Human Therapists?
by Ms. Fleur Brincat
Have you ever woken up in the morning and the first thought across your mind was ‘How am I going to deal with that difficult patient?’; ‘How am I going to solve the conflict between me and my colleague’; or ‘I don’t feel like working today; how can I motivate myself after working for so many years in the same place? Am I becoming burnt out? Shall I leave the country to try and enjoy my work?’ If yes than you must be a Human Therapist and you need to deal with these issues that can ultimately affect your performance as a physiotherapist.

Article: Comparison of two passive mobilising techniques following distal radial fractures.
by Ms. Bernardette Bonnici
This study compared the outcome of two passive mobilising techniques following Type I or Type III distal radial fractures. Design: Repeated Measures Independent Group. Outcome measures included pain, range of movement (ROM) and grip strength. 12 females participated in this study. Following removal of cast, participants were randomly assigned to 3 Groups: Group 1 was treated with passive stretches; Group 2 with passive oscillations; and Group 3 with both techniques. All participants were treated with Pulsed Electromagnetic Energy and were given advice as well as a home exercise programme. Each participant was treated for six consecutive sessions. Results indicated that passive stretches alone, passive oscillations alone and both techniques used together decreased the pain and increased grip strength and ROM. Passive stretches used together with passive oscillations were most effective in decreasing pain and increasing wrist extension ROM. Passive stretches alone were most effective in increasing wrist flexion ROM and increasing grip strength.

Case Study: Acute proliferative tendinosis of the Achilles Tendon.
by Ms. Elaine Vella
Acute proliferative tendinosis of the achilles tendon (TA) is a condition which is often present in sprinters who undergo sessions of repetitive tendon loading, usually due to intense training. The following case study is an example of such a condition, highlighting the importance of a holistic biomechanical assesment, to enable an effective management plan.
