Physiotherapy in Malta

shoulder mobilisationPhysiotherapists wishing to work in Malta require registration with the Council of Professionals Complementary to Medicine (CPCM). The aim of the CPCM is 'to safeguard  the health and well-being of the public using the services of the professions, it regulates, by setting and maintaining standards of professional training, performance and conduct.' Physiotherapy is one of the professions which the CPCM regulates. Applications forms for registration can be found on the website.

There are different entities who employ physiotherapists in Malta. The main employer is the Department of Health, Elderly and Community Care. Job opportunities also available within private clinics or hospitals, parastatal institutions, care homes and voluntary organisation. One can also opt to work privately as a free lance.

The University of Malta offers an under gradate course in Physiotherapy. This is a 4 year long course on full time basis, were the first 3 years are mainly academic and the last year is supervised clinical practice. Entry requirment can be found here.
